DNS record types

If you want your site to work properly, you need to have the DNS records set up correctly. These are simply necessary for the website, emails and all services on the domain to work properly.

There are several types of DNS records. The most important one is the NS record, which tells on which server your domain’s DNS records are processed. Next, it is an A record that specifies the IP address to which your domain, or the individual services on it, are routed.

Then a CNAME record is often used , which is actually an alias to some A record. Next is the MX record, which tells you what servers your mails are running on.

Next, it is a TXT record that sets up various authentication services, for example, when you want to authenticate your domain in Google Search Console. There are several other types of DNS records besides these, but not all of them are used that often anymore.
