Did you know that HTTP/2 protocol can significantly speed up the loading of your page, as it can handle multiple requests at the same time, whereas its older version HTTP/1.1 can only handle one?
Imagine a waiter bringing you the food you ordered. For HTTP/1.1, you’ll get your starter first, then your soup, then your main course, and finally your dessert. With HTTP/2, it brings you all the food on one tray at once.
Which way do you think you’ll have your food sooner?
Similarly, when you open your website, it needs to load various images, JS and CSS files from the web server to display it. Clearly, the more modern HTTP/2 protocol will transfer all these files to your computer much faster.
In order to take advantage of this speed, you need to comply with the following:
- you open the site in a modern web browser that supports the HTTP/2 protocol
- you have an SSL certificate installed on your website(contact me if you don’t have one)
- the web server of your hosting company where you have your site hosted supports this protocol. Even today, I often encounter that some providers do not have this support. You can easily check whether your site has this support, e.g. at http2.pro If you find that it doesn’t, it’s probably time to change hosting, I recommend WebSupport, which has http/2 support on all its servers (read more in this article).
