Do you create web pages in the popular page builder Elementor? Would you like to simplify your work so you can work faster? Thanks to the tips in this guide, you’ll find out how to do it.
1. Use keyboard shortcuts
Some things are easier and faster to do on the keyboard by pressing a combination of keys than by clicking the mouse, so why not take advantage of it? I personally use the following shortcuts most often in Elementor:
Action | Shortcut |
Insert style | CTRL + SHIFT + V |
Duplicate (section, column, element…) | CTRL + D |
Search engine | CTRL + E |
Show/Hide panel (toggle on/off the preview) | CTRL + P |
Responsive mode | CTRL + SHIFT + M |
For a list of all available keyboard shortcuts, press CTRL + ?
2. Use the search engine
You’ll recognize it. You are editing a page and want to start editing another. The standard procedure is to quit Elementor, go to the list of pages in WordPress, find the one you want to edit and open it in Elementor.
Why so complicated? There is a much simpler way. Just press the CTRL+E keyboard shortcut and type the name of the page you want to edit. Then just click on it in the list of search results and you’re done, you can edit it. Similarly, you can search for anything else, e.g. add a new page.
3. Work with Navigator
Especially if you have a long page, you can easily get lost when editing it. This is where Navigator can serve you very well. It is a window with a tree structure of the whole page, where you can clearly see the list of sections, columns, elements and you can easily switch between them. You can also easily drag & drop, delete,… In addition, you can double-click on each section to rename it as you like and thus make the whole structure even clearer.
You can view the navigator in the sidebar by clicking on the second icon from the left at the bottom, or press CTRL + I.
4. Use global colours and fonts
If you change the colour/background of an element, you can change it in one place only and the change will be automatically reflected on the whole site. So you won’t have to go through page after page and change it all manually “in a thousand places”.
5. Turn on the quick edit option
By default, when working with objects in Elementor, when you want to e.g. duplicate or delete, you must right-click on them and select the desired function from the context menu. However, when you click on “hamburger” in the sidebar (the three lines icon on the top left) and in the User preferences you turn on Editing handles, you will be able to select frequent actions from the menu as soon as you point the mouse at the section, column or element edit icons, so you won’t have to use the right mouse button, thus “saving” a few mouse clicks.
(TIP: procedure for activating the functionality)
6. Copy styles
Imagine that you have created a section with three columns. On the first one, you change the look, you set a new style for it. Now you want the remaining two columns to look exactly the same. Are you going to make the same adjustments again as you did on the first column? Of course not. You can set the same style for the other columns, without changing their content, as follows:
- Right-click on the icon of the first, already edited column and select Copy.
- Right-click on the second column icon and select Insert Style. This will only copy the appearance, but the content will be preserved.
You can do the same for elements or sections.
